KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins has been a significant medium to the city of Fort Collins and throughout the Northern Colorado region. The Fort Collins-based community radio station has been, “a thriving resource to the community for entertainment, information, thought-provoking local current affairs, and incredible music,” said Executive Director Jen Parker.

Here are 5 reasons why you should listen and support KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins.

  1. The Radio Stations Purpose & Goal

KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins is a non-profitable, community-based, volunteered-run radio station. The station is owned and operated by the Public Radio for the Front Range and has no association with NPR, KCSU, or Pacifica. “The goal of the station is to involve the community, while also informing and telling the story of the community,” said, Program and Volunteer Director Sean Lamborne. The Fort Collins-based community radio station is dedicated to providing a rich cultural listening experience to listeners in Northern Colorado and around the world.

2. Programs & Music

From small community talk-shows to a wide selection of music genres and programing, the FoCo community radio station broadcasts it all. “Our goal is to get a very large variety of music, a lot of our listeners love music nearly from every genre,” said Sean Lamborne. Their passion for music is astounding and there is no limit to their genre selection, from rock to hip-hop, to country and bluegrass, all the way to reggae and salsa. Programs like the NoCo Flow, JB’s Wild Ride, and Tejano In the Mixx highlight the stations’ importance to broadcasting every genre. Live weekly programs including Locally Sourced and Live @ Lunch thrive to showcase local and regional musicians. Informational programs like Community at Work provide updates to local news and FitLife Colorado focuses to provide professional insight about wellness and fitness. The local DJ’s and hosts work passionately to bring listeners a mesmerizing musical experience, while also being recognized as a local informational source.

3. Who’s making it all happen

Local volunteers donate their personal time to help operate the radio station. Each and every one of its community members plays an essential role to the radio stations growth and continuity. In addition, the Fort Collins-based radio station is supported by donations from individual donors, local businesses, foundation grants and corporate companies. In the recent year’s local big companies such as, New Belgium, Ginger & Baker, plus several important partners cooperate to maintain an operatable radio station. Thanks to the local support from the community KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins continues to give back to its listeners. “If It wasn’t for our local volunteers we would not exist,” said, Jen Parker.

4. Involvement with Local Events & Venues

As a community radio station their involvement with local music events is amazing. KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins heavily supports a variety of music events in Northern Colorado. Some events are FoCo MX, Bohemian Nights at New West Fest, Greeley Blues Jam, Arise Festival, plus tons more. They also work with local venues like Washington’s, The Mishawaka, and Aggie theater. “We record shows at Avogadro’s Number, New Belgium, Washingtons…and then re-air them,” said Jen Parker. Broadcasting live or re-aired shows from the events and venues has definitely welcomed and connected its listeners to the community. The partnership with music events and venues has allowed the station to promote and welcome listeners to concerts and local events.

5. Opportunities for Everyone

Anyone in the community can cooperate and be a volunteer for KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins. The station offers a huge variety of exciting positions including event staff, technicians, underwriting and office operations. Also, with the proper training you can move up and work as an on-air DJ or programmer. If you don’t want to be live on-air there’s opportunities in production, sound engineering, and other technical aspects. “While working at the music district I felt inspired on volunteering and cooperating in the stations marketing and media development,” said Graphic Design Consultant Carla Gamboa.
